Endodontics
In addition to our complete line of cosmetic, neuromuscular, and general dentistry services, we also provide comprehensive endodontic services. Not all dentists are qualified to perform many endodontic treatments. Two to three years of post-graduate training are required. As a result, most general dentists have to refer their patients to qualified endodontists for certain treatments. Dr. Firouzi is a trained and highly experienced endodontist who keeps cosmetic concerns in mind when performing any endodontic treatment.
What is Endodontics?
Endodontics is a specialty of dentistry that focuses on the inner tooth, including the tooth pulp and all tissues surrounding and including the root. An endodontist has the training and expertise to perform any of the following procedures:
- Root canal therapy – Treatment of infection of root tissues. These include various nerves, small veins and arteries, and lymphatic and fibrous tissue.
- Root canal surgery – This involves the removal of root and surrounding tissues due to damage caused by trauma or infection. Once removed, the root tissue is then replaced with a filling and the tooth is covered with a dental crown.
- Internal tooth bleaching – Internal tooth structures can become discolored due to trauma, disease, and as the result of medications such as tetracycline. Most tooth whitening systems are not effective on internal discoloration.
Treatment of abscesses – Abscesses are a collection of pus that forms around an infection or foreign object. They can lead to severe dental pain and further infection if not treated properly.
Treatment of abnormal tooth anatomy – Congenital and developmental defects of the tooth root can lead to several serious dental complications.
